In addition to traditional critical care, the ICU specializes in liver assist devices (ELAD) and plasmapheresis. The TICU is responsible for the Rapid Response care for all patients at UPMC Montefiore, and participates in clinical trials to investigate sepsis, acute kidney injury, and ischemia reperfusion injury.

The Transplant ICU patients receive care for:

  • Acute alcoholic hepatitis
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • End-stage liver disease
  • Abdominal transplantation of liver, kidney, pancreas, and small bowel
  • Complex head and neck, colorectal, and orthopedic spinal surgery
