Raj Ramanan, MD appointed ECMO medical director

Assistant professor Raj Ramanan, MD has been appointed the ECMO medical director for UPMC Presbyterian. In this role, Dr. Ramanan is responsible for the management and oversight of the ECMO program including assisting to set policy, monitor quality, credential providers, coordinate care, and educate residents, fellows, APPs, nurses and respiratory therapists. He assumes the role effective immediately and will report to the medical director of the Cardiothoracic ICU, Holt Murray, MD.

Dr. Ramanan is board-certified in Critical Care Medicine and a 2017 graduate of CCM’s Multidisciplinary Critical Care Training Program. He also completed an Advanced Cardiothoracic Critical Care and ECMO fellowship at UPMC. An attending in the Cardiothoracic ICU, Dr. Ramanan is the medical director for the Rapid Response Team at UPMC Presbyterian, the medical director of UPMC Procirca ECMO Education, and the patient safety officer for the Department of Critical Care Medicine.
