9th Annual Mitchell P. Fink Scholar Day
The 9th Annual Mitchell P. Fink Scholar Day, a signature scholarship event of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, will be held as a virtual event via Zoom from 2pm to 4pm on Thursday, June 4, 2020.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing a postponement from the traditional March event date, more than 20 first authors submitted abstracts that were selected for presentation on Fink Scholar Day. First authors include critical care medicine fellows, departmental T32 and visiting scholars, clinical staff and medical students. The authors of the top abstracts in four categories—Quality Improvement, Clinical Research, Education, and Translational Science—will be announced as the prize winners during in the introductory segment of the event.
Authors will present their research during one of three sessions:
- Communication and Interprofessional Care
- Quality Improvement and Clinical Outcomes
- Sepsis—Bench to Bedside
Attendees will be required to pre-select a breakout session they wish to join. Instructions will be provided on the day should an attendee want to move between breakout sessions.
The spirit of Mitchell P. Fink lives on in the celebration of critical care scholarship at this event. Mitch Fink was the inaugural chair of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, the first such department at a medical school in the United States. His clear and strategic vision for modern multidisciplinary critical care has left lasting benefits for the entire field. He was one of the most inspiring and influential leaders in the fields of critical care medicine and trauma and sepsis management. He excelled as a teacher, clinician and scientist. Over his 40-year career, he provided caring, astute mentorship and career guidance to hundreds of physicians and scientists.
