CCM Faculty Member Develops Peer-to-Peer Support Network for Physicians

Mon, 01/11/2016

Lakshmipathi Chelluri, MD, MPH, Professor in the Departments of Critical Care Medicine and Medicine, recently developed a program called Physicians for Physicians, a confidential peer-to-peer support network for physicians struggling with the aftereffects of an adverse event. As noted on the network’s website, “Clinicians report increased stress, sleep problems, and loss of confidence after an adverse event, particularly if it is preventable. As a result, the individual clinician is referred to as the ‘second victim’ because of the personal and professional impact they experience.” Physicians for Physicians aims to alleviate this negative impact through a network of volunteer physicians who will act as “peer supporters.”
