Admissions Requirements and Procedures

Applicants for each fellowship must:

  • Complete the training requirements for an ACGME accredited residency training progrm. 
  • The Anesthesia - CCM fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center participates in the SF Match. Please see www.sfmatch.org for deadlines, procedures, and process. 
  • The supporting documents required for application through SF Match include: 
    • Three (3) letters of recommendation from faculty members of current or prior training programs. One of these letters must be from the current department head or training program director
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • USMLE I, II, and III scores or COMLEX scores
    • ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
    • Personal Statement
  • Complete the application form, Anesthesiology CC Application.
  • Submit all items, including SF Match documents and the Anesthesiology CC Application, to the CCM Education Office electronically.
  • Visit the University for a personal interview following review of your completed application and letters of recommendation.

After acceptance into the program:

  1. American and Canadian graduates must obtain a Graduate Medical Training (GMT) license to receive fellowship training in Pennsylvania. This process includes having a medical school verification form completed and submitted to the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Application forms for the GMT license will be forwarded to all trainees upon acceptance into the program.
  2. Foreign Graduates must also obtain the GMT license, which requires ECFMG sponsorship, a J-1 visa, three years of prior training in the United States, and completion of USMLE Steps I, II and III, or its equivalent.

All incoming fellows must be previously certified for the duration of their fellowship in BCLS and ACLS.
